Learn the pathways of working with data, including data collection, cleaning, analyzing, visualizing & talking about data. By the end of the workshop, you will have a small data visualization project that you can talk about in cover letters and resumes. Data analysts and scientists will tell you that 80% of their work involves cleaning and managing data, and only 20% is analysis and visualization. The first “unit” in this intensive is designed to get you thinking about why cleaning and management are so important, and introduce you to the best practices for working with data and basic principles for organizing data so that it can be computer-analyzed (“database thinking”) that you will need for the rest of the course. Then, using online tutorials and instructional sessions with Bryn Mawr's educational technologists, you will learn to clean, manage, analyze and visual data using the tool(s) and a practice data set of your choice.
