An introduction to the history and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, the course examines how historical events and socio-political tensions have been engaged by Spanish-American and Spanish literature, film, and art. As a course that satisfies the Cross-Cultural Analysis (CC) approach, we will be developing, alongside the study of texts, ways to frame questions, contextualize, and develop methods of inquiry. We will achieve this by exploring textual (formal) elements in dialogue with the historical (contextual) processes in which they originated. As we engage with the right and diverse heritages of the people of the Hispanic community students will review their grammatical knowledge in Spanish and expand their vocabulary.
