What's new in Moodle 3.4!
by Helen Chang - LITS upgraded Moodle to the latest version (3.4) in May. This new version brings exciting features:
- Favorite courses: Moodle now has the option of "favoriting" your course and organization pages. This means that you will no longer have to scroll through all of your courses to get to the ones you use the most. Simply click the star icon next to the course title on your Moodle homepage and that course will now appear under the "Favorites" tab. You will still be able to view the entire list from the "Courses" tab.
- The Backup process now has "Jump to final step" as an option. This means that instead of viewing each confirmation page, you can jump straight to the end of the process where you will either be able to download the backup file, or restore the materials into a different course page that you teach.
- It is easier than ever to enroll users into your course pages. In the "Participants" list, there is now an option to "Enrol users". Please note: the way of enrolling students into their academic courses is still automated and Teachers will not see "Registered Student" as an option. This method should only be used to add Auditors, other Teachers, or enrollment for organizations and committees.
We are aware of a known problem with adding new Campus Pack resources. While we are trying to find a permanent solution, there is a workaround:
- Step 1: Click on "Campus Pack Collaboration space" link in the campus pack block within your course page. If you do not see it, make sure Editing is turned on, then click "Add a block.." at the bottom left-hand side of the page, and select "Campus Pack" from the drop-down list.
- Step 2: Click on "Add content" in the far right section and select from the menu which type you would like to add (e.g. Blog, Wiki, Journal). Give the new content a Title and click "Add" at the bottom of the page.
- Step 3: After you add the content, you will be taken to the front page of that content type. Towards the top left, you will see a link that has the name of your course. Click on that to return to the "Collaboration Space" from Step 1.
- Step 4: Right-click (or Control+click if you are on a Mac) on the content you added and click "Copy link address"
- Step 5: Click on the link that says "Go to "x course" in Moodle" to return to the Moodle page for your course. Add the URL resource from the "Add an activity or resource" drop-down menu and paste the link to the campus pack content. Give the URL a title (and description if you would like) and click "Save and return to course" at the bottom of the page. You will now see a web link to the Campus Pack item in your course that will let you and your students access the campus pack activity.
